Hometown: Dayton, Oregon and Guanajuato, Mexico
Undergraduate Degree: BA in Civic Communication and Media
Yas Arenas is a BA/MBA (3+2) candidate. She grew up in the Pacific Northwest in a small town called Dayton, Oregon. She decided to attend Willamette University because of the small classroom sizes and the ability to form close relationships with professors. During her undergraduate years, Yas fell in love with the art of persuasion and storytelling, leading to her major in Civic Communication and Media. By pursuing a degree in media studies, Yas has used her undergrad skill-set to work in marketing teams for local elections, restaurants, and bilingual agencies.
Yas decided to pursue a dual-degree program because it was the perfect opportunity to combine her storytelling and leadership passion into a five-year experience. Her concentrations in the program are undecided but she is leaning towards marketing and entrepreneurship. Her long-term goal is to open a business that promotes Latinx narratives, food, and culture in the Pacific Northwest.
"I decided to attend Willamette University because of the small class sizes, rigorous education, and the opportunity to form close relationships with my peers and professors. It has definitely been challenging, but I would not trade it for anything. It’s the best investment I’ve made in my education and professional career. If you're thinking about calling Willamette home, I promise you won't regret it! "
