Native and Indigenous Student Union to present music, information on campus.

Willamette’s Native and Indigenous Student Union (NISU) will commemorate Indigenous Peoples Day today, Oct. 9, through music and informational signage on campus. As Willamette community members walk through Jackson Plaza between 1 and 3 p.m. they will hear both traditional and contemporary indigenous music. Lawn signage will also provide background on the day and information on Native American history.

Indigenous Peoples Day was first recognized in Berkeley, California, in 1992, and has since replaced the observance of Columbus Day in four states and in some municipalities.
