Dear friends and colleagues,
We are very pleased to inform you that Hiroshi Takahashi, currently President of Tokyo International University and Tokyo International University of America, will be joining us in Salem starting in April 2019. He will continue to serve as the President of Tokyo International University until the end of March. Chancellor Kurata and he have agreed that he will have great impact by continuing as President of TIUA, and he will carry out these duties here in Salem.
Hiroshi has been a faculty member at TIU for 44 years; his degrees in Economics are from TIU and from Keio University. He is one of the most knowledgeable individuals on the TIUA organization, its educational programs, and the relationship between TIU and Willamette University. As a student in 1967 he participated in one of the earliest summer exchanges between TIU and Willamette; over the course of his career he has dealt with all aspects of this sister-university relationship.
The board of trustees of Tokyo International University Foundation has also announced the appointment of Dr. Shuhei Shiozawa as the new President of TIU, effective April 1st, 2019. In addition to serving as the Dean of the Faculty of Economics at Keio University for many years, Dr. Shuhei Shiozawa has accumulated varied achievements in multiple fields through both his societal and academic contributions. He received his B.A. and M.A. in Economics from Keio University and his Ph.D. in Economics from The University of Minnesota. He will contribute greatly in implementing TIUA educational programs and in strengthening the ties between TIU and Willamette University.
We are looking forward to working with Presidents Takahashi and Shiozawa as we continue the lengthy friendship and institutional partnership among TIU, TIUA, and Willamette University.
Best regards,
Carol Long
Provost and Senior Vice President
