April is Sexual Assault Action Month

Engage in prevention and awareness programs celebrating our theme "Futures of Freedom and Hope."

April is Sexual Assault Action Month (SAAM). The goal of SAAM is to inspire action to reduce the prevalence of sexual violence, support survivors and to continue to build a community of respect, free of violence. Students and staff from the Gender Resource & Advocacy Center, along with the Sexual Assault Response Advocates, have created an engaging month of activities to share valuable information and to promote our theme of “Futures of Freedom and Hope.”

“Futures of Freedom and Hope” honors the commitment to sustainable practices for collective liberation, free from violence like sexual assault and other consequences of oppression. Our reflections on the last year concerning patterns of domination, coercion, dehumanization and pervasive powerlessness have left many of us feeling weary. We urge our peers and colleagues to be in community with us, centering the healing of survivors as a path to freedom. It is their strength and their visions for change that offer us all hope.

Join us by attending one of the many programs outlined below that will highlight survivor stories and provide educational tools to create a future of freedom and hope. Zoom registration links and event descriptions are available by visiting the 2021 SAAM website.

If your department, club or student organization wants to be highlighted for your efforts related to violence prevention and SAAM throughout April, email grac-info@willamette.edu. Together, we can create a future free of sexual assault where all of us feel respected, ready to engage in healthy relationships and full of hope.
