Starting on Tuesday, January 22, Willamette University will once again honor the life and legacy of one of the greatest leaders and humanitarians of our time, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
A number of events are planned to honor Dr. King, including workshops, a small group discussion, and a faculty colloquium. We also have the popular capstone event of our celebration, the Into the Streets community service project. Please note that afternoon classes for CAS students on Friday, Jan. 25 have been canceled to facilitate participation in this event. I encourage each member of our campus community to take the opportunity to serve, remembering Dr. King’s words: “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is ‘What are you doing for others?’”
However you choose to honor and remember Dr. King, I hope you will take time to reflect on how each of us can advance the values he stood for in our own lives and in our communities.
Sincerely,
Stephen E. Thorsett, President
