About Service, Leadership & Sustainability

Service, Leadership and Sustainability (SLS) are three of the most important values of the Willamette community. Through service to the Salem community, SLS students will learn and engage with just a few of Salem’s leading community organizations dedicated to strengthening and empowering their friends and neighbors. This program not only provides students with the opportunity to grow together in service, but also to bond and develop new friendships along the way. SLS leaders serve alongside participants to share their knowledge of Willamette and volunteer networks at Willamette and beyond. Over the course of just four days, students can expect to take part in improving the environment, feeding families and improving Willamette’s natural resources for future students. Students will also have the opportunity to meet and form lasting memories with other Jump Start leaders and participants.

The program fee includes all meals, accommodations, fun surprises and a T-shirt. Join us as we build community with one another while living out Willamette University’s motto, Not unto ourselves alone are we born.

"I left SLS not only with a vast expanse of knowledge I wouldn't have found anywhere else but also a giant pool of compassion, not just for the people closest to me but for all other humans"
