The Campus Life Honors and Awards is an annual tradition where more than 100 students, faculty and staff are recognized and honored for their outstanding contributions to the various areas of campus life.

ASWU

Albert Prize

Created by a bequest of Joseph H. Albert, this prize is awarded to the student who, having maintained good standing in scholarship during the year, has grown in capacity, ability, and performance to have a positive impact on his/her peers.

Colonel Percy Willis Prize

In memory of Colonel Percy Willis (1885), a trust was established by his wife to provide a prize to the student who, throughout the school year, has displayed virtues of diligence, reliability, and responsibility through deeds and services to fellow students of the University.

Frank Meyer Student Life Award

This awards was renamed in 1994 to honor the 27 years of service provided by former Vice President for Student Affairs, Frank Meyer. It is presented to a student for outstanding leadership and contribution to improve the quality of life at the University.

Jessie E. West Award

Named in honor of Jessie E. West '14, Willamette's first female student body president, this award is presented to two students for outstanding leadership and contribution to the student body through both their positions and their actions.

Daniel H. Schultze Award

Created in 1965 in honor and recognition of Daniel Schultze, professor of religion, dean of men, and professor German. Schulze was held in high regard by all and was truly a friend of the students. This award is given to the members of the senior class who have put out the extra effort necessary for the class to function properly, not just now but in previous years, and are considered "The Bet Friends of the Class as a Whole."

Franklin D. Meyer Student Ambassador Award

Presented to tour guides, outreach ambassadors or overnight hosts who best demonstrate the ability to make visits by prospective students and families most informative and enjoyable.

This award honors the top female academic performer from the Athletics department, recognizing an athlete who excels in the classroom.

Willamette Store Outstanding Female Intramural Athlete of the Year

Given to the University woman who displays passion and joy for recreational and competitive activity, this award honors a student who exhibits exemplary sportsmanship qualities.

Professional Development Award

This award is given to a student who contributed to the professional and career development of his/her Willamette University peers through programs, personal leadership and/or partnering with others to educate and inform students about their careers. The recipient will have taken a strong role in furthering Willamette students' ability to apply what they learned as undergraduates to their futures.

Collegian

Timothy C. Hawkins Award

Presented to a student who has made an outstanding contribution in the field of journalistic photography, the Timothy C. Hawkins Award was established in 1977 by family and friends in his memory. Hawkins was a familiar person on campus in the 1970's a great sports fan, and a favorite with the students.

George Putnam Award

Named to honor George Putnam, who served as editor and publisher of the Capital Journal of Salem from 1919 to 1952, this award is presented to a student on the Collegian staff who has given distinguished service to the paper. Putnam was an advocate who fought long an hard for public interest, including a battle with the local Ku Klux Klan. Willamette University also named the George Putnam University Center in his honor.

Charles A. Sprague Award

Presented to a member of the Collegian reporting staff, this award recognizes students for their outstanding endeavors. It is named in honor of Charles Sprague, one of the Northwest's most respected editorial voices, former governor of the State of Oregon and former editor of the Oregon Statesman newspaper. In addition, Sprague was an active member of the Willamette University Board of Trustees.

Hank Althoff Award

Created by the Willamette University Chapter of Mortar Board, this award is presented to a person who has continually given outstanding service to the Willamette University community. Henrietta "Hank" Althoff epitomized the true meaning of this award, service as a member of the Health Center staff for more than 30 years. Because of her, Willamette University is a better place.

This award recognizes students who have contributed significantly to the international community at Willamette University.

Scholarships

Dona Adams Rothwell Scholarship

This award was created in memory of Dona B. Adams Rothwell, who earned her BA from Willamette in 1949. After graduation, she worked in journalism and in higher education at the University of Michigan and was active in AAUW and Pi Beta Phi alumnae activities. Her principal lifetime achievement was supporting scholarships.

Katie Redmond Memorial Scholarship

Created in 1986 in memory of Willamette student Katie Redmond, this award is given annually to an active member of the Beta Chi chapter of Alpha Chi Omega who demonstrates leadership potential and exhibits qualities of character worth of emulation.

Sara Bingay Schultz Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the friends and family of Sara Bingay Schlutz, following her death in 1995. Bingay Schultz was an exceptional student and accomplished athlete, graduating from Willamette with honors in 1990. She was a member of Delta Gamma sorority and became a little sister in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. She majored in English and minored in economics.

Taul Watanabe Scholarship

A member of the board of trustees for many years, Taul Watanabe graduated from Willamette in 1941 and attended the College of Law until World War II forced his transfer to the University of Denver to complete his studies. In 1978, he received the Third Order Sacred Treasure, the highest Japanese government award for citizens of other countries. This scholarship is awarded to students of Japanese-American descent who have high academic achievement and a close connection to their Japanese-American heritage.

Winterscheid Scholarship

This scholarship was established to honor Dr. Loren '48 and Muriel '48 Winterscheid for their lengthy record of service to Willamette University. The recipients will have made recognized contributions to the well-being of the Willamette University community.
