Case #1 – Employee: July 8, 2020

Dear Willamette Community,

We are writing to make you aware that an employee who has been working on campus tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday. The employee has had no contact with anyone in the campus community since July 2 and is in self-isolation at home, in accordance with CDC and local public health guidelines. Contact tracing is being coordinated through the Marion County Public Health department. Those in the Willamette community who may have come into close contact per the CDC guidelines with this employee will be notified directly and given further instructions.

With COVID-19 cases still present in our local community and state, we would like to remind you to continue to strengthen your personal health protection by practicing social distancing and covering your mouth and nose with a cloth face covering, especially in public places where 6 feet of separation is not feasible.

Case #2 – Student: Aug. 23, 2020

Dear Willamette Community,

We are writing to make you aware we have been notified that a student working on campus tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, August 23. The individual lives off-campus and is in self-isolation at home, in accordance with CDC and local public health guidelines.

Marion County Public Health is coordinating contact tracing. Those in the Willamette community who may have come into close contact with this individual will be notified directly by Marion County and given further instructions. As a reminder, close contact is defined as anyone who was within 6-feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes.

With COVID-19 cases still present in our local community and state, we would like to remind you to continue to strengthen your personal health protection by practicing physical distancing, putting at least 6-feet between yourself and others, covering your mouth and nose with a cloth face covering, especially in public places where 6-feet of separation is not feasible.

Case #3 – Contractor/Other and Case #4 – Employee: Aug. 28, 2020

Dear Willamette Community,

We have been notified of two positive cases of COVID-19 in our campus community. A contractor/other person working on campus tested positive on Friday, August 28, 2020, and has not been on campus since August 21. The employee was not in close contact (as defined by the CDC) with anyone in the Willamette community and is in self-isolation at home.

Another employee tested positive on Friday, August 28, 2020. The employee was last on campus on Thursday, August 27, 2020, and is in self-isolation at home. The university understands that this person did not have close contact with anyone in the Willamette community. Marion County Public Health will confirm if contact tracing is needed.

Case #6 – Student: Sept. 10, 2020

Dear Willamette Community,

We have been notified that a student living on-campus tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, September 10, 2020. The student has been moved to a private location and is self-isolating. Anyone identified as a close contact has been told to quarantine and will have follow-up with a Marion County contact tracer.

Case #16 – Student: Nov. 17, 2020

Dear Willamette Community,

We have been notified that a student living on-campus tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, November 17th and is currently isolating at home. The student was last on campus on Friday, November 13th and was present in Belknap and Goudy Commons. Per recently-released rules from the Oregon’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration, we are now required to inform the community of the buildings or facilities in which the confirmed case was present. It is important to note that anyone identified as a close contact has already been told to quarantine and will receive follow-up with a Marion County contact tracer, and that the new OSHA requirement does not change Willamette’s existing testing protocols. In other words, if you have not been contacted, you do not need to take any action at this point.

  • A contractor working on campus tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, Nov. 26th. This person was last on campus on Tuesday, Nov. 17th, and was present in Goudy Commons. The individual was not in close contact (as defined by the CDC) with anyone in the Willamette community and is in self-isolation at home.
  • An employee not regularly working on campus tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, November 26th. The person was last on campus on Monday, November 23rd, and was present in Sparks Athletic Center. Anyone identified as a close contact has been notified, told to quarantine, and will receive follow-up from a Marion County contact tracer.

Per recently-released rules from Oregon’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration, we are now required to inform the community of the buildings or facilities in which the confirmed case was present. The individual was not in close contact (as defined by the CDC) with anyone in the Willamette community and is in isolation.

Report a Positive COVID-19 Case

Anyone testing positive for COVID-19 is asked to report their status by using one of the following forms:

Students
Employees

Representatives from Student Affairs and Human Resources will report positive cases to the local county health department; Marion County for Willamette community members in Salem.
