Reported Cases


Case #1 – Employee: July 8, 2020

Dear Willamette Community,

We are writing to make you aware that an employee who has been working on campus tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday. The employee has had no contact with anyone in the campus community since July 2 and is in self-isolation at home, in accordance with CDC and local public health guidelines. Contact tracing is being coordinated through the Marion County Public Health department. Those in the Willamette community who may have come into close contact per the CDC guidelines with this employee will be notified directly and given further instructions.

With COVID-19 cases still present in our local community and state, we would like to remind you to continue to strengthen your personal health protection by practicing social distancing and covering your mouth and nose with a cloth face covering, especially in public places where 6 feet of separation is not feasible.

Faculty or staff who test positive for COVID-19 are asked to notify Danita Chapin in Human Resources at dkchapin@willamette.edu. Students who test positive are asked to notify Tori Ruiz in Student Affairs at truiz@williamette.edu.

Case #2 – Student: Aug. 23, 2020

Dear Willamette Community,

We are writing to make you aware we have been notified that a student working on campus tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, August 23. The individual lives off-campus and is in self-isolation at home, in accordance with CDC and local public health guidelines.

Marion County Public Health is coordinating contact tracing. Those in the Willamette community who may have come into close contact with this individual will be notified directly by Marion County and given further instructions. As a reminder, close contact is defined as anyone who was within 6-feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes.

With COVID-19 cases still present in our local community and state, we would like to remind you to continue to strengthen your personal health protection by practicing physical distancing, putting at least 6-feet between yourself and others, covering your mouth and nose with a cloth face covering, especially in public places where 6-feet of separation is not feasible.

Cases #3 & 4 – Employees: Aug. 28, 2020

Dear Willamette Community,

We have been notified of two positive cases of COVID-19 in our campus community. An employee working on campus tested positive on Friday, August 28, 2020, and has not been on campus since August 21. The employee was not in close contact (as defined by the CDC) with anyone in the Willamette community and is in self-isolation at home.

Another employee tested positive on Friday, August 28, 2020. The employee was last on campus on Thursday, August 27, 2020, and is in self-isolation at home. The university understands that this person did not have close contact with anyone in the Willamette community. Marion County Public Health will confirm if contact tracing is needed.

Please continue to be diligent in your personal health protection by practicing physical distancing and wearing masks, especially in public places where 6 feet of separation is not feasible.

Case #5 – Employee: Sept. 4, 2020

Dear Willamette Community,

We have been notified that an employee working on campus tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, September 4, 2020. The employee was last on campus on September 2. We understand the employee was not in close contact (as defined by the CDC) with anyone in the Willamette community, and is in self-isolation at home.

Please continue to be diligent in your personal health protection by practicing physical distancing and wearing masks, especially in public places where 6 feet of separation is not feasible.

Case #6 – Student: Sept. 10, 2020

Dear Willamette Community,

We have been notified that a student living on-campus tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, September 10, 2020. The student has been moved to a private location and is self-isolating. Anyone identified as a close contact has been told to quarantine and will have follow-up with a Marion County contact tracer.

Please note that the Higher Education Coordinating Commission and Oregon Health Authority require that confidentiality be maintained for employees and students who test positive, therefore, we are limited in the details we are able to communicate.

Please continue to be diligent in your personal health protection by practicing physical distancing and wearing masks, especially in public places where 6 feet of separation is not feasible.

Case #7 – Employee: Sept. 16, 2020

Dear Willamette Community,

We have been notified that an employee working on campus has tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, September 16th, 2020. The employee was last on campus on September 9th. Anyone identified as a close contact has been told to quarantine and will have follow-up with a Marion County contract tracer.

Please note that the Higher Education Coordinating Commission and Oregon Health Authority require that confidentiality be maintained for employees and students who test positive, therefore, we are limited in the details we are able to communicate.

We have been notified that an employee working on campus tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, September 19. The employee was last on campus on Tuesday, September 15. Anyone identified as a close contact has been told to quarantine and will receive follow-up with a Marion County contact tracer.

As noted earlier, the Higher Education Coordinating Commission and Oregon Health Authority require that confidentiality be maintained for employees and students who test positive, therefore, we are limited in the details we are able to communicate.

Please continue to be diligent in your personal health protection by practicing physical distancing and wearing masks, especially in public places where 6 feet of separation is not feasible.
