Policy for External Organizations and Non-university Related Businesses Seeking Presence on Willamette University’s Web Site

Willamette University will consider hosting web sites and domains of non-profit organizations that are in some way connected to the educational mission of the University. The organization requesting presence on Willamette University’s web site must have a member of Willamette’s faculty or professional staff as a sponsor. All requests for Willamette University’s web hosting services will be reviewed by an oversight committee and must be approved by a member of the Administrative Council.

Willamette University will generally not host web sites or domains supporting advertising or commercial activities. In particular, commercial activities not associated with the overall mission of the University are prohibited. However, with the approval of the President and the oversight committee, requests for hosting the web site for commercial purposes may be granted if it is deemed beneficial to the University. Willamette University may choose to charge an external commercial organization to host its web presence. Willamette University will not be responsible for the integrity of any financial transactions an external organization may choose to conduct via the University’s web site.

Any external organization granted the privilege of placing information on Willamette University’s web site is entirely responsible for the content and design of the material included on the site. Willamette University specifically denies any responsibility for the accuracy or quality of the material maintained by the organization.

External organizations must abide by the same policies for use of Willamette University’s web site as do individuals and organizations internal to the College and by the rules and regulations of Willamette’s internet service providers. Willamette reserves the right in its sole discretion to remove material from its web site at any time or to terminate services entirely.

Willamette’s services may only be used for lawful purposes. Transmission of any material in violation of any US, state, or local law is prohibited. This prohibition includes but is not limited to copyrighted material, threatening or obscene material, or material protected by trade secret. The requesting organization agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Willamette University from any claims and expenses, including reasonable attorney’s fees, resulting from its use of Willamette’s services that damages it or any other party.

Willamette University makes no warranties, either express or implied, with regard to its systems and hereby disclaims any and all implied warranties of fitness for a particular purpose. In no event will the Willamette University operators be liable for incidental or consequential damages, including but not limited to, destruction of data, inability to access data, or damage to the organization’s equipment.
