Outlook 2013 for Windows

IMPORTANT: If you have never used Outlook on your computer, the Outlook 2010 Startup wizard will begin. Most of the time, this is all you need to do to get Outlook setup for your Willamette email. Establishing the connection and configuring the server settings will take a few minutes.

Detailed, instructions are given below if the wizard does not start, if it fails, or if you need to adjust any settings.

New Account Setup

  • Start Outlook 2013.
  • Click on the File tab.
  • Click on Info.
  • Click on Account Settings and then choose Account Settings again from the pop-up balloon.
  • Click on the Email tab.
  • Click on New...
  • Click on button next to Manual setup or additional server types.
  • Click on Next.
  • Click on the button next to POP or IMAP.
  • Click on Next.
  • Complete the form as follows:
    • Your Name: {your full name}
    • E-mail Address: {your complete Willamette email address}
    • Account Type: IMAP
    • Incoming mail server: imap.googlemail.com
    • Outgoing mail server: smtp.googlemail.com
    • Username: {your complete Willamette email address}
    • Password: {your Willamette network password}
    • Click on the More Settings... button
    • Click on the Outgoing Server tab
    • Check the box next to My outgoing server requires authentication.
    • Check the button next to Use same settings as my incoming server.
    • Click on the Advanced tab
    • Complete the form as follows:
      • Incoming server (IMAP): 993
      • Use the following type of encrypted connection: SSL
      • Outgoing server type (SMTP): 465
      • Use the following type of encrypted connection: SSL
      • Click OK to return to the previous screen.
    • Click Next (Outlook will test your settings and send a test message)
    • If there are errors, go back and check for typos.
    • If successful, click Finish.

Setup Willamette Address Book (online Fusser's Guide)

  • On the Account Settings screen, click on the Address Books tab.
  • Click on New...
  • Click on the button next to Internet Directory Service (LDAP).
  • Click on Next.
  • Server Name: ldap.willamette.edu
  • Click on the More Settings button (Outlook may notify you about restarting before these changes will take effect)
    • Under Display Name type Fusser's Guide.
    • Click on the Search tab.
    • Under Search Base, click on the button next to Custom.
    • Custom: o=willamette.edu
    • Click on Apply.
    • Click on OK.
    • Click on Next.
    • Click on Finish.
