Curriculum

The MLS curriculum is crafted to provide you with a strong foundation in legal concepts and the ability to apply this knowledge effectively in your professional life. Core subjects include contracts, civil procedure, property law, and torts. Beyond these foundational courses, students can select from a wide array of electives that address specific interests such as business law, healthcare law, or environmental law.

  • LAW 103 Contracts I

    This course delves into the principles that govern contractual agreements, focusing on the creation, interpretation, and enforcement of contracts. Students will learn to analyze complex contractual issues and understand their implications in various contexts.

  • LAW 248 Healthcare Law & Policy

    This class provides an in-depth examination of the legal and regulatory issues affecting the healthcare industry, covering topics like patient rights, healthcare compliance, and the intricacies of health insurance law.

Program Requirements

Our Master of Legal Studies (MLS) program requires 26 credit hours to complete the degree. Core requirements include completing one introductory law course, such as Contracts, Civil Procedure, or Property Law, which accounts for 3-4 credit hours. Additionally, students must complete a significant writing project under faculty supervision, which contributes to their overall credit requirement.

Students pursuing the MLS degree on a part-time basis may spread their coursework over two to four years, ensuring they meet the 26 credit-hour requirement within that time frame.

Admissions Information

To apply, students must submit a personal statement, resume, letter of recommendation, and official transcripts. Admissions are rolling.

Financial Aid and Scholarships

Willamette offers a range of financial aid options, including federal aid and merit-based scholarships. We encourage all applicants to submit their FAFSA by the priority deadline to be considered for financial assistance. Additionally, merit scholarships are awarded based on academic performance and professional experience, with no separate application required.
