Alison Claypool-Conrad
Internship Story: Meet Alison Claypool-Conrad '16
As an intern with the Oregon Department of Forestry, Alison Claypool-Conrad taught herself an entire e-notification system, and then proceeded to write user manuals for both internal and external users. Working out of a field office and headquarters, she also participated in project management and business analysis, and led training sessions.

“I learned an enormous amount about how different organizations work together and how difficult decisions are made when time is running short,” Claypool-Conrad says. “I also gained a network of individuals who helped me reach my goals, spoke with me about my plans, provided great advice and are happy to help me figure out what I would like to do next.”

Ali’s internship helped her discover what she liked to do, as well as not liked to do. “I would rather not sit behind a computer screen all day and am interested in learning more about project management and group dynamics within teams,” she says.

This is where you come in.

Willamette students need more internship opportunities. Plus, your place of business would benefit from the energy, intellectual curiosity and heart these students would bring. No internships at your workplace? Create one. It’s easy. We’ll show you how.

Virtual Networking Nov 20 Join us for another online speed networking event and make connections in your industry – all from the convenience of your desk!

Thursday Nov. 20, 2014
12:00 - 1:00 p.m. PST

How it works:
  • Bearcats from all over will log in at the same time and be matched with others in their field for eight-minute instant-message chats.
  • If the person you are chatting with has a LinkedIn profile, it will appear on one side of the screen during your interaction.
  • When you make a valuable connection and your eight minutes are up, you can move your discussion to Skype, a phone call, an email or an in-person meeting.

WU Switchboard Willamette's Switchboard has three new features to make connecting into the WU community even easier:
  • Mentions allow users to mention and link to other Switchboard users in their posts and comments. Mentions are a great way to direct a friend to a relevant post or connect an asker to help.
  • Notifications alert users when someone mentions them, comments on one of their posts, or logs a success. They help users to respond to each other in a timely manner and accomplish their goals.
  • The Text Editor feature allows commenters and posters to style their text, making sharing information easier, cleaner and clearer.
Learn more about these new features here, or log in to WU's Switchboard to try them out yourself!
