Willamette University Invitational Vocal Jazz Festival Concert

April 26th at 7:30pm. Smith Auditorium

The Willamette University Music Department is hosting the annual Invitational Vocal Jazz Festival Concert on the Smith Auditorium stage, Friday, April 26, 2019 at 7:30p.  Suggested Donation for admission is $5 adults and $2 for students.

The Willamette Singers, Willamette’s renowned vocal jazz ensemble, will be the hosts for the evening and have invited several Salem high schools to perform. The Southernaires from South Salem HS under the direction of Will McClean, Framework from Sprague HS under the direction of David Brown and Soundscape from West Salem HS under the direction of Kimberly McConnell will all be performing.

Our headliner for the event will be David Cazier who is a skilled director, vocalist, pianist, writer and jazz educator.  Prof. Cazier is the Director of Choral Activities at Columbia Basin College in Pasco, WA. 

Invited groups will receive a clinic from Prof. Cazier and Dr. Wallace Long, Director of Choral Activities at Willamette University, during the day on Friday followed by the evening concert.  The concert will start with the high school groups and will close with the Willamette Singers.   The Singers’ program will feature an amazing arrangement of “Harold’s House of Jazz” by “Groove for Thought”  and the Kirby Shaw arrangement of “That Old Black Magic.”

Willamette Singers members from the Salem area include: Forrest Deters, Joey Grimmell, Ariana Pippert, and Aubrey Harris.

Admission is free, but there is a suggested donation of $5 for General and $2 for Students.
