Robert Anderson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Theatre at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, where he trains actors to join the Acting Profession. He recently returned from New York City where he worked in residency at The Performing Garage with Royal Shakespeare Company Movement Director, Struan Leslie, on a devised one-woman performance piece for fellow Acting Faculty member Lisa Dixon. Last year he assisted Mr. Leslie at the RSC in Stratford upon Avon on his controversial production Song of Songs. A member of Actors' Equity Association, he has performed across the United States with Utah Shakespeare Festival, Tacoma Actors Guild, Illinois Shakespeare Festival, the Empty Space Theatre, Arkansas Shakespeare Theater and the Idaho Shakespeare Festival, among others. Also active in film, Anderson is a founding member of Lenten Entertainment, with which he produced the documentary Within A Play, which aired for two years on the Sundance Channel as part of its Doc Day Series. His most recent film, The Actual Authentic Version of Who You Say I Am, which he co-directed and produced, was named an official entry at the Louisville International Festival of Film. In the Spring of 2012, he conducted a series of Shakespeare workshops at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore. Later this fall, Anderson will play Benjamin Britten in a staged reading of Alan Bennet’s The Habit of Art in conjunction with “Benjamin Britten at 100: An American Century Symposium” at Illinois State University. He holds an MFA in Acting from the Professional Theater Training Program at the University of Delaware. In 2012 he received the College of Fine and Applied Art’s Teaching Excellence Award.
