Biography
A resident of Portland, Maureen Culligan has been dealing with masks and their applications for about three decades.
Maureen Culligan is an entirely self-taught artist. She began mask making as a young single mother with no work experience trying to support three children.
On December 1, 2000, the Jacobs Gallery presented The Moon, the Sun, and All of the Above, a street theater style performance featuring the masks of artist Maureen Culligan and the Eugene Mask Makers Guild. Performers interacted eye to eye with the audience in and around the artwork of Mixed Media Masks and Woven Vessels.
Culligan, who teaches mask making in public and private schools in Oregon, not only delights in selling her creations but takes time out to talk to and encourage children and others.
