Struan Leslie is a freelance theatre maker and artistic director of Twenty-First Century Chorus.  He was Head of Movement at the Royal Shakespeare Company for five years from 2009 establishing a movement department there.  He assumed this position after 25 years freelancing in all areas and applications of the principles of dance, theatre and performance. While at the RSC he was movement director and choreographer on many productions of Shakespeare and new plays. He also directed Songs of Songs and FlashMob Romeo&Juliet and provided movement support on some 75 other productions.  He also contributed to the company’s broader movement provision across the organization including Education, Development and Events and Exhibitions.

Struan’s work has been produced by major producing houses in the UK, Europe and North America. He has collaborated widely with directors including, Katie Mitchell, Neil Bartlett, Michael Boyd, Gregory Doran, Roxanna Silbert, Nick Hytner, Philip Howard, Nicholas Broadhurst. Struan regularly leads classes, workshops and master classes at theatre, dance and music conservatoires. He also mentors emerging artists and practitioners at all stages of their careers.

Since resuming his freelance career his work including theatre, circus and opera. This work includes A Suit To Travel In for Paul Smith Design at London Collections Men, Paris Menswear and World Tour, The Hook, world premiere of Arthur Miller’s “play for the screen” Royal and Derngate, Tale of Two Cities both Royal and Derngate and Liverpool Everyman, Owen Wingrave, Aldeburgh and Edinburgh International Festivals, Regeneration national tour, A Life of Galileo, Birmingham Rep and tour.  He has also recently been artist-in-residence at venues including Oxford University and University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He is also developing research and teaching programmes at the Grieg Academy, Bergen, Norway and Warwick Business School, Warwick University, UK.
