Biography
Stephanie Mulligan is a stage director in both the professional and educational arenas. Favorite recent shows include Leading Ladies, Red Hot Patriot, As You Like It, Circle Mirror Transformation, The Seven Wonders of Ballyknock (world premiere), Dear Galileo (world premiere), The Outgoing Tide, Parnassus on Wheels (world premiere), Brave Smiles, Love’s Labour’s Lost, The Laramie Project and The Comedy of Errors.
Just prior to directing The Secretaries at Willamette, Stephanie will direct the world premiere of The Ghost of David Belasco at Lakewood Theatre in Lake Oswego, OR, opening on January 6, 2023. Willamette faculty members Robert Vaughn and Rachel Kinsman Steck join Stephanie as designers for this production.
Stephanie began her professional career as a stage manager, a trade she still has occasion to ply. She is eminently grateful to have worked with and learned from such notable American directors as James Edmondson, Allen Nause, Chris Coleman, Penny Metropulos, John Dillon, Aaron Posner and Nancy Keystone.
Based in the Pacific Northwest, she is a frequent participant in international programming, through which she has collaborated with India’s Mahesh Dattani and Lillette Dubey; Vietnam’s Đo Doan Châu and Đang Tu Mai; and Australia’s Cate Blanchette, Robyn Nevin and Andrew Upton. Stephanie has been a guest lecturer at several American universities, and at theatre and film schools in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Sydney, Australia. Stephanie is an Arts Envoy for the U.S. Department of State.
