1. When I select the file in WebEdit, all I see is gibberish

A file named incorrectly

If you have uploaded a file and the preview displays it as gibberish, it means that WebEdit does not recognize it as a specific file (such as jpg, pdf or doc).

Follow our tutorial on fixing this.

2. When I select the file in WebEdit, it won't preview

This doc is not able to be previewed

Specific browsers may have problems previewing pdfs and docs and will only display the text "Content Render".

The WebEdit system displays a little different depending on the browser you are using and whether or not it is up-to-date on upgrades.

To avoid this problem, you can either choose to use WebEdit in a different browser, check the the browser is upgraded, or Download the file to preview it from your computer directly.

To download a file, select the file and click on the "Download" link under the editing tabs. This will download the file to your computer. From there, locate the downloaded file on your computer and open it in the appropriate program.

3. I uploaded the file, but now I can't locate it

Make sure that the file was uploaded to the correct place. Often, mistakes can be made where the file is uploaded to the wrong location.

To find it, click on the History tab and choose the new file in the drop-down menu list. The system tree will select it and you can see it's current location.

If it is outside of the "doc", "pdf" or "images" folder, it was not uploaded in the correct location. To move the file, follow our online tutorial.

4. I published the file, but I don't see it

This could be for a variety or reasons:

First, did you link the file? Uploading the file adds it to the system, but users will not be able to download it unless it is linked from a page.

  • Did you publish the page where it should be linked? If you have not published the page where the file is linked, it will not be available. Learn more about Publishing.
  • Did you refresh the page that it is supposed to be on? Make sure that the page with updates is refreshed so that it can re-load any new content.
  • Still not working? See our full list of possible conflicts.

5. I recently updated the file, but the page still shows the old version

Make sure that the file was published. If you did not publish the file, the page will still refer to the old version.

  • Did you refresh the page that it is supposed to be on? Make sure that the page with updates is refreshed so that it can re-load any new content.
  • Still not working? See our full list of possible conflicts.
