The Studio Art Scholarship is a recurring merit-based scholarship that is offered to applicants with a serious commitment to studio art and the artistic community.
Eligibility
Eligibility for this scholarship requires new first-year or transfer students to be admitted to Willamette University, demonstrate potential in one or more studio art mediums, declare at least an art minor, and contribute in a meaningful way to the studio art program. The scholarship is renewable for up to 8 semesters, based on annual evaluations by the faculty.
This scholarship allows us to welcome talented students into the artistic community here at the university, enhancing not only the recipient’s academic experience but the Studio Art Department as a whole.
To Apply:
- Apply for admission to Willamette University
- Submit the Studio Art Scholarship application, including:
- A response of 500 words (maximum) to the following:
- How does art influence contemporary society, and how do you want to use art to affect change?
- A response of 500 words (maximum) to the following:
- A digital portfolio of 5-10 work samples, which can include works-in-progress. See below for additional details.
Portfolio Review & Application Process
All applicants must submit a portfolio of 5-10 work samples, which can include works-in-progress. All types of artwork are acceptable. If you have video samples you would like to share, you may include 1-2 excerpts of no more than one minute in length each. Your portfolio should be formatted as a Google Drive so you can share the link in the application. Please ensure that the sharing settings allow faculty to access the folder and its contents.
After application submission, the department may offer virtual appointments for portfolio reviews. These sessions allow you to create a one-on-one connection with faculty and give you the opportunity to receive feedback on the direction of your work. Applicants will be contacted with additional details when they are available.
