Awards & Scholarships
Art Talent Award Scholarship
The Studio Art Department of Willamette University offers the Art Talent Award Scholarship, a merit-based, recurring scholarship offered to applicants with a serious commitment to studio art.
Joy Lorraine Hayhurst Award
This award was established by Joy Hayhurst ‘84 to honor outstanding academic achievement and contributions by seniors to the Department of Art and Art History. Recipients are chosen by the faculty. They each receive a plaque to keep, and their names are placed on a permanent plaque in the Art Building.
Hallie Ford Art Scholarship
This fund was established by Mrs. Ford, who has been a Willamette University trustee for many years and a generous benefactor to the University. This is an academic scholarship for female art majors who are Oregon residents, with a 3.00 or higher cumulative GPA. Recipients are chosen by the faculty.
Esther Wright Huffman Art Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Dr. Norman A. Huffman in memory of his wife, Esther, who taught art at Willamette from 1947 to 1951. It is given annually to an Art Studio or Art History major to be held during his or her junior or senior year. Recipients are chosen by the faculty.
Shuchat Arts Fellowship Program
The Shuchat Arts Fellowship Program (SAFP) is made possible through a generous, multi-year pledge from Mr. Terry N. Shuchat. The objective is to provide students in the arts an opportunity to develop their expertise through significant independent summer projects, working closely with their faculty mentors.
Recipients of the Shuchat Fellowship (available for students majoring in art, music, or theatre) are often juniors and seniors, advanced enough in their craft to do high-level, independent work. Fellows are expected to use this opportunity to build their portfolios, have professional experiences, or otherwise prepare for career or graduate school success in the arts.
