Biography
Alex Standen is an interdisciplinary scholar of the environment in Latin America and the US. Alex recently completed his doctorate in Environmental Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder. He also holds an MA in Latin American Studies from Tulane University. Alex’s research blends environmental history, political ecology, environmental justice, labor studies, and critical disaster studies. He is specifically interested in the transnational land reform movements that flourished in Latin America and the US during the New Deal period. Before beginning his doctorate, Alex spent a year living and working on a farm in Utuado, Puerto Rico, where he was actively involved in a number of environmental education and agroecology projects.
