Biography
Qinqing Qian (she/her) is the Director of Instrumental Music and an Assistant Professor at Willamette University.
Dr. Qian has extensive experience as a conductor, composer, performer, and educator. She has led numerous performances of various instrumental music and operas and conducted and performed concerti from the keyboard. She has conducted professional orchestras, bands, opera productions, choruses, and music festivals throughout North America, Asia, and Europe.
She is a registered BMI classical composer. Her co-composed opera "One-Log Bridge" premiered at Willamette University in 2023 and had a fully staged performance debut with the University of Minnesota Opera Theatre. This production was chosen to perform in New Hazlett Theater 2023/2024 Season in Pennsylvania.
Dr. Qian is the Western Region President-Elect of the College Orchestra Directors Association. She also was awarded second place at the American Prize 2022 for Conducting for Opera and Musical Theatre Division.
Dr. Qian has a double Bachelor's and a Master's in Piano Performance, Audio Engineering, and Conducting from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music; a Master in Music in Instrumental Conducting from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music; and received a D.M.A. in Orchestral Conducting with a minor in Choral Conducting at the University of Minnesota.
