Biography
Dr. Stewart received a B.A. in psychology and sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara (1986), and a Ph.D. in experimental psychology from the University of Nevada, Reno (1995). He was an NIH postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Brain and Cognition at the University of California, San Diego (1995-1998). His research focus is on the perceptual and cognitive phenomenology of synesthesia, a unique neurological condition whereby seemingly distinct sensory experiences become merged. In addition to his academic responsibilities, Dr. Stewart has served in a variety of administrative roles at Willamette, including department chair, director, associate dean, and dean.
