Biography

Professor Werner teaches Legal Research and Writing.

Before joining Willamette University College of Law, Professor Werner practiced law in the nonprofit and private sectors.  She represented indigent plaintiffs in administrative hearings and impact litigation regarding government benefits as a staff attorney at the New York Legal Assistance Group in New York City.  She also counseled and represented large employers on employee benefit and tax issues as an associate at Norton Rose Fulbright in Houston, Texas. While at Norton Rose, Professor Werner represented English- and Spanish-speaking clients in pro bono family law cases.

Professor Werner clerked for the Honorable Vanessa D. Gilmore, U.S. District Court Judge in the Southern District of Texas.

Professor Werner received her J.D. from the New York University School of Law, and received the Ann Petluck Poses Memorial Award for outstanding work in the Civil Legal Services Clinic at NYU.  Professor Werner was also one of two students from NYU accepted to spend a semester studying in Spanish at the University of Palermo School of Law in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Prior to law school, Professor Werner served as a Peace Corps volunteer teaching science in Benin.  She also worked as a park ranger at Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument. She is thrilled to be in Oregon after falling in love with the Pacific Northwest as a park ranger.
