Job Description

The Web Applications office is looking for a detail-oriented and multi-talented intern to help continue to shape and improve the University’s digital presence. You will work in a small-team environment where you will expand your skills and get hands-on experience contributing to a digital enterprise environment. You will learn about website accessibility and actively participate in testing, troubleshooting, and analysis on the development of digital accessibility compliance.

This is an opportunity to:

  • Gain knowledge of digital usability for people with disabilities
  • Learn new web application development skills with a focus on accessibility and/or best practices in regards to digital documents
  • Enhance time management, problem solving, and teamwork skills

Major Duties

Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Serve as an advocate for compliance to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
  • Propose recommendations as to how different applications might improve design and code to better serve customers with disabilities
  • Identify opportunities to educate and evangelize for accessibility best practices for web
  • Assisting Web Application staff with a variety of website updates
  • Review PDF accessibility to determine if remediation is required
  • Remediating PDF documents
  • Work simultaneously on multiple projects of varying complexity and length
  • Develop documentation and tutorials
  • Other duties as assigned

Applicant Qualifications

Prefer a student who:

  • An interest in or experience with disability or accessibility
  • Has excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Some experience with website editing and/or Adobe Acrobat, InDesign and Photoshop

General Requirements

  • First, second, or third year student
  • Good problem solving skills; ability to visualize a problem or situation and think abstractly to solve it
  • Ability to work responsibly with or without direct supervision
  • Willing to learn on the job and adapt to changing needs
  • Strong sense of initiative
  • Strong communication and time-management skills
  • Professionally interact with faculty, staff, and students
  • Work 20 - 40 hours per week (Summer) and/or
  • Work 6 to 20 hours per week (Fall/Spring)
