Degrees Available: Bachelor of Arts

Immerse yourself in Japanese culture and prepare to thrive as a global thinker.

Interest in Japan is higher than ever. It’s a time of dynamic, dramatic change in Asia, spawned primarily by globalization and economic growth. This is your chance to delve into the forces that are reshaping our world.

As a student in our Japanese Studies program, you’ll take classes in language, culture, history, literature, film, religion and art history. You’ll explore your interests through independent and collaborative research. And you’ll have access to extensive study abroad opportunities at Tokyo International University, our sister university in Japan.

You’ll also partake in language and cultural exchange experiences with 100 Japanese students at Tokyo International University of America, which is co-located on Willamette’s campus. Student clubs host festivals, language tables and other Japanese cultural events.

When you graduate, you’ll be ready to carve out a career path that’s uniquely yours. Our alumni have emerged as leaders in international business, foreign service, tourism, education and law. They’ve pursued advanced studies at graduate school, and they’ve joined the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) program to launch careers in Japan. The choice is yours.
