Small Groups

Small group discussion classes are designed to broaden ICL’s academic offerings and promote more personal involvement.

Some classes have predetermined dates and times while others will be determined by those who sign up. For more information, or to sign up, call the class coordinator.

If you want more information on any of the Small Group classes, please contact the Small Group Coordinator, Jyl McCormick.  Also, if you have a suggestion for a class you would be interested in, such as current events (local or national), or an additional discussion following the Great Decision's class with Jeanette Flaming, please let Jyl know.  

Work with a small group of ICL members. There will be no public presentation. This is just for your enjoyment.

Write in an encouraging environment. Respond to prompts or write whatever feels important to you. Maximum 10 students.

Classes meet September 14, 28, October 12, 26, November 9, 23, December 7

4:00 - 6:00 p.m. in Montag Conference Room.

This class is full, but Lois Rosen might agree to another one if enough people are interested.

Next semester there will be a Lunch Bunch class that meets every Tuesday. This is the replacement for Toastmasters (ICL was hoping to start a Toastmasters group last year, but we couldn't fulfill the national requirements.

Joel states: Our curriculum was designed from materials presented in "Mastering Public Speaking," a public speaking text by George L. Grice and John F. Skinner.  I also  drew upon my own undergraduate degree in speech and experience teaching speech at the high school level for several years.  It is important to understand that the ICL Lunch Bunch was not patterned after the Toastmasters' franchise nor did we use any of their protected materials.
