Medical Emergencies

Call Campus Safety first. Campus Safety will:

  1. take enough information to guide first responders
  2. send an officer
  3. dispatch WEMS when available (Willamette Emergency Medical Service is a licensed student EMS agency in the State of Oregon)
  4. contact and escort city emergency services, when needed.

Campus Safety officers and staff provide immediate primary assessment and victim assistance, and carry emergency equipment such as automated external defibrillators. Officers will transport students with non-life threatening illnesses or injuries to the Urgent Care Clinic or to Salem Hospital (one block from campus) and assist the student into the building and with the sign-in process; a friend or helper may accompany the student. Students may call Campus Safety at any hour for a ride back to campus from the Hospital or Urgent Care Clinic. Campus Safety will notify the Office of Residence Life of a hospital transport; Residence Life staff will provide additional support, including a staff person at the hospital if requested.
