Crimson approached PNCA with openness and enthusiasm, taking on every opportunity to be challenged creatively. Two of the most important experiences in their art school career came in just six memorable months. Within that short period, Crimson held a summer internship at the Portland Institute of Contemporary Art where they were able to contribute to the renowned Time-Based Arts Festival; combined with a semester studying abroad in the United Kingdom at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham. At home and abroad, Crimson benefited from building relationships with creative professionals from various cultures and backgrounds.

“Having such distinct, difficult yet rewarding experiences leading into one another has shifted the way in which I engage and critique institutions,” Crimson says. “I returned changed, navigating growth I was just catching up to.”

While studying on PNCA’s campus, Crimson benefited from the intimacy of a small community of peers and mentors. One crucial force in Crimson’s development was the guidance of BFA Thesis Mentor and Assistant Professor Erin Doughton. Crimson took several courses with Doughton, from a performance independent study course to their thesis experience. Crimson says Doughton continues to “ground me, advocate for me, and support me endlessly.”

The school's environment has transformed my confidence for guided self-exploration, reaching out to professors in order to guide and grow my curiosities.”

As Crimson prepares to graduate, they embrace the uncertainty of the future with open arms while planning to continue their education.

“I returned changed, navigating growth I was just catching up to.”

“I am dreaming up various locations to travel to and see where I could move into the next phase of my life. Overall, I am looking forward to learning how to be an independent artist and grow my practice, not on anyone else's time but my own. Letting my practice breathe in the everyday — feeding my endlessly valuable connections with professors and peers all the while.”
