Courses and Credits Taken at the Exchange Institution

The specific number of courses that must be taken to earn the required number of ECTS credits varies with the exchange institution.

Summer Semester Exchange Programs

Exchange students who participate in a summer semester exchange program must enroll in and complete a minimum of 12 MBA level ECTS credits and earn a grade of "pass" or higher. Successful completion of a minimum of 12 ECTS credits during a summer semester exchange program results in 6 credits of GSM elective course work. A maximum of 6 summer exchange credits may be applied toward graduation requirements. 

Fall Semester Exchange Programs

KEDGE Business School (formerly known as Bordeaux School of Management) - Exchange students who participate in the fall semester exchange program in Bordeaux must enroll in and earn a grade of "pass" or higher in 30 ECTS credits of MBA level approved elective course work at their exchange institution during their fall semester of exchange. Successful completion of 30 ECTS credits during a fall semester exchange program results in 15 credits of GSM elective course work.

Copenhagen Business School - Exchange students who participate in the fall semester exchange program at Copenhagen must enroll in and earn a grade of "pass" or higher in 30 ECTS credits of MBA level approved elective course work at their exchange institution during their fall semester of exchange. Successful completion of 30 ECTS credits during a fall semester exchange program results in 15 credits of GSM elective course work.

Strasbourg Business School - Exchange students who participate in the fall semester exchange program at Strasbourg must enroll in and earn a grade of "pass" or higher in 30 ECTS credits of MBA level approved elective course work at their exchange institution during their fall semester of exchange. Successful completion of 30 ECTS credits during a fall semester exchange program results in 15 credits of GSM elective course work.

Peking University HSBC Business School - Exchange students who participate in the fall semester exchange program at HSBC must enroll in and earn a grade of "C-" or higher (HSBC grading system) in 15 Peking credits of MBA level approved elective course work at their exchange institution during their fall semester of exchange. Successful completion of 15 Peking credits during a fall semester exchange program results in 15 credits of GSM elective course work.

Registration and Credits at Atkinson While on Exchange

Atkinson School Course Registration - Atkinson exchange students will be enrolled at Willamette while on exchange. Exchange students will register for the GSM International Exchange course appropriate for their exchange program (GSM 7240, 7241, 7242, 7243, 7244, 7245).

Exchange Program Course Registration - All Atkinson students participating in an exchange program must provide a list of the courses for which they are registered at the exchange institution before courses begin. Information provided about each course must include the course title, course number and the number of ECTS credit value of the course. Exchange students must also notify us of any changes in registration at the exchange institution.

Grades - International Exchange courses are graded Pass/No-Pass. Passing grades received from the exchange university will be recorded as "P" by the Atkinson School. Failing grades will be recorded as "N" on the Atkinson School transcript. The Atkinson School transcript will list the name of the exchange institution, courses completed and the P/N grade assigned.

Order Transcripts - At the completion of the exchange semester, all exchange students must order an official copy of their transcript from the exchange school to be sent to the Atkinson School. The official transcript should be mailed to the Associate Dean and Director of Admission of the Willamette MBA program.

Specific Academic Regulations and Course Requirements Related to Participating in an Exchange Program

  • Students participating in a summer semester exchange program must successfully complete and pass a minimum of 12 ECTS credits at the exchange institution to complete the 6 credits of GSM International Exchange course for summer semester.
  • Students participating in a fall semester exchange program at Copenhagen or Strasbourg must successfully complete and pass a minimum of 30 ECTS credits at the exchange institution to complete the 15 credit GSM MBA International Exchange course for fall semester.
  • The required course "GSM 6121 - Politics and Public Policy for Managers" will be waived for students who successfully completed 30 ECTS credits while participating in a Fall Semester Exchange program at Copenhagen or Strasbourg during fall semester.
  • Students participating in a fall semester exchange program at KEDGE Business School in Bordeaux must successfully complete and pass a minimum of 30 ECTS credits at the exchange institution to complete the 15 credit MBA International Exchange course for fall semester.
  • The required course "GSM 6121 - Politics and Public Policy for Managers" will be waived for students who successfully completed 30 ECTS credits while participating in a Fall Semester Exchange program at KEDGE during fall semester.
  • Students participating in a fall semester exchange program at Peking University HSBC must successfully complete and pass a minimum of 15 credits at the exchange institution to complete the 15 credit MBA International Exchange course for fall semester.
  • The required course "GSM 6121 - Politics and Public Policy for Managers" will be waived for students who successfully completed 15 credits while participating in a Fall Semester Exchange program at HSBC during fall semester.
  • A maximum of 15 semester credits from Fall Semester Exchange programs may be applied toward graduation requirements of the Willamette MBA program.
  • A maximum of 6 semester credits from Summer Semester exchange programs may be applied toward the graduation requirement of the Willamette MBA program.
  • Students participating in an exchange program should refer to academic regulations governing the total number of Pass/Fail or Pass/No-Pass, waived or transfer credits which may be applied toward MBA graduation requirements. In general, the combination of credits from the following courses cannot exceed 21 credits: Pass/Fail or Pass/No-Pass courses, Exchange Programs, Foreign Language Study, Internship, Independent Study, Research, waived credits, and transfer credits.

Application Deadline for MBA Exchange Programs

Deadlines for summer 2019 and Fall 2019 exchange programs  are yet to be determined, but are typically in February.

Questions about international exchange programs should be directed to the Atkinson School. Students should not contact the exchange institutions for information. Students selected to participate in an exchange program will be able to communicate directly with their exchange institution after the Atkinson School notifies the exchange program of the student's selection for participation.
