Update (Jan. 9, 2017): Unfortunately, the choir tour had to be canceled due to the winter storm that paralyzed Oregon over the weekend.

Willamette’s Winter Choir Tour kicks off with a performance Jan. 7 at the university before traveling throughout Oregon and California.

The Willamette University Chamber Choir and Willamette Singers, directed by Wallace Long, will perform at 7 p.m. at Hudson Hall.

Performances will include a variety of sacred and secular works, both a cappella and accompanied. The McNary High School choir and the West Salem High School choir will also perform.

Selections by the Chamber Choir include William Mathias’ “Let the People Praise Thee, O God,” a song composed for the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana in 1981, “Gloria” by Javier Busto and “Speak of Peace” by Allan Robert Petker. Vocal jazz ensemble Willamette Singers will perform “First Train Home” by Imogen Heap, “It’s Sandman” by William James “Count” Basie, “Kaleidoscope Heart” by Sara Bareilles, “Roller Coaster” by Justin Bieber and others.

The concert is free and open to the public. Goodwill donations are encouraged.

With the exception of the January 8 performance in Corvallis, the Willamette Singers will appear with the Chamber Choir for the duration of the tour.
