We are no longer accepting applications for participation in summer research labs

Student research fellows are extremely involved in the research process. While in Africa, ISA-CGC fellows will collaborate with Senegalese or Ghanaian student fellows to explore Diaspora development projects. All participants will reside in homestays near their research sites. Students will actively participate with community members to conduct in-depth interviews with local informants, distribute and collect surveys, observe the functioning of sites, and collaborate with other researchers to develop professional reports based on their findings.

Several international organizations and institutions, such as the World Health Organization (WHO), International Organization on Migration and the International Labour Organization are interested in the results of this research. The insights provided through this research will also be of value to Diaspora individuals and associations. Your participation in this program may help promote successful diasporas for health projects while mitigating the negative effects of the human resources for health crisis.

Willamette University students are selected on a highly competitive basis to participate during the summer as Institute Research Fellows in West Africa. Pending administrative approval, research fellows may earn two academic credits for their participation. Scholarships are available.
