At Willamette, we pride ourselves on providing high-quality, in-person teaching in a small school environment that offers an alternative to overcrowded state universities and under-resourced programs at regional liberal arts colleges. Our Master's in Computer Science program is no exception. We aim to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the rapidly growing field of computer science. In other words, we offer big school program opportunities with small school quality.

Our graduate program stands out from most large state schools' programs in that it doesn't restrict admission to candidates with a bachelor's degree in computer science. Our program is designed to enhance the career prospects of individuals with a moderate degree of programming ability, attracting highly motivated students from various disciplines that already have an understanding of computer programming.

While some level of programming ability is required for admission, it is equivalent to our current undergraduate introductory courses (i.e., CS 151/152). We require a summer bridge program prior to the program's start to ensure students have the necessary skills to succeed in our program. However, students with significant programming experience can petition to waive this requirement.
