At Willamette University, students have the flexibility to enroll in one or two courses on a non-degree basis. Whether you’re looking to earn academic credit or simply want to audit courses without receiving credit, we offer tailored options to suit your needs. Application procedures vary based on individual circumstances, so we encourage you to contact the Office of Admissions for more information and to obtain the appropriate application forms.

The Willamette University Academic Listener Program

For those interested in a non-credit learning experience, the Academic Listener Program allows non-degree-seeking students to attend regular classes at Willamette University. As an Academic Listener, you can engage in classroom discussions without the pressure of exams or assignments. Your name will be included on class rosters, and you are expected to attend at least 75% of the class sessions to receive the final grade of AUD (audit). Failure to meet the attendance requirement may result in the course being removed from your record by the Registrar.

To participate as an Academic Listener, follow these steps:

  1. Attend the first meeting of each class you wish to enroll in.
  2. Before the add/drop deadline, submit the Academic Listener Application to the instructor of each class for their signature. You may also obtain their permission via email.
  3. Return the completed form and payment to the Registrar’s Office.

For further details and to begin your journey as a non-degree seeking student, please reach out to the Office of Admissions.
