1. A total of two credits (8 classes) from a combination of activity or varsity sports courses may be used toward graduation. Students may pre-register for a maximum of one activity course per semester. If the student has taken less than an average of one activity course for their previous semesters, a maximum of one additional activity course may be added on the first day of classes on a space-available basis.
  2. Students who wish to make changes in their course schedules after the registration period may do so by completing an Enrollment Change (Add/Drop) card. Enrollment Change cards may be obtained from the Registrar’s Office and require signatures from the academic advisor and the appropriate instructor of the affected courses. Deadlines for adding and dropping courses are listed in the academic calendar. Students are urged to note the deadlines carefully.
  3. The following activity courses have mandatory fees therefore, have specific deadlines established in which the course may be dropped and fees refunded: Golf I, Golf II, Scuba I, Scuba II and Skiing. Students must refer to the Registrar’s Course Schedule to determine the specific deadline to receive a fee refund for a respective activity course.
  4. The following rules govern the participation in class:
    1. Because of the laboratory nature of the classes, attendance is required. Students should arrive on time, appropriately dressed, and must stay for the duration of the class.
    2. Students are expected to attend classes. Any student not attending the first class session forfeits his/her place on the roster. Students remain responsible for officially dropping the class.
    3. Any student who is ten minutes late for class, or is not appropriately dressed, or who leaves class before the end (without Instructor permission) will be counted as “absent” for the day.
    4. Students found signing-in or signing-out for other students who are not there will also be counted as “absent” for the day.
    5. In general, the instructor can issue a non-passing grade to any student who misses five class meetings during full-semester, twice-a-week courses; or two class meetings during half semester twice-a-week courses. Once-a-week courses or other irregular-schedule courses will have different absence policies. [Refer to the course syllabus for specific information.]
    6. In general, students may [with instructor approval] make up a maximum of 4 missed classes in a full-semester course and 2 missed classes in a half-semester course. Permitting make-ups for any classes missed beyond the maximum absences is at the instructor’s discretion, on a case-by-case basis.
    7. Absences due to prolonged illness, accident or other reason, will be appealed on an individual basis between instructor and student. Injuries or illnesses prohibiting participation do not qualify as excused absences.
      7a. You must inform your instructor immediately if you have any illness or injury which may prevent you from fully participating in the class.
    8. If make-ups are pre-approved, the student may attend another class of like nature. Students conducting make-ups must request the instructor of the activity course to verify acceptable participation. A student may be denied permission to use another activity course for make-up if the instructor of the alternate activity course determines it is inconvenient to have this additional (make-up) student in his/her class due to limited facility or special activities. The student may then seek an alternative make-up option(s) based upon requirements from the enrolled activity course’s instructor.
    9. Absences due to adding the course after the beginning of the term are considered the same as any absence, and count towards the maximum number of absences allowed in a course.
    10. Accepted clothing consists of comfortable workout attire unless otherwise required by the instructor.
    11. A student is expected to attend any class that is 90 minutes prior to the commencement of the game or event. Should the class extend into the 90-minute pre-event period, the student should consult with the instructor and discuss whether it is appropriate to attend a portion of the class. There are few circumstances that would require greater than 90 minutes of pre-event preparation.
    12. All students should be aware of the Sparks Center Policies including: Drinks must be in sealable plastic containers. No eating in the classroom or in the hallways. Shoes must be worn in hallways, lobby, Fitness Center, stairs, Racquetball courts and in the gyms.
    13. Students are encouraged to use the Locker Rooms on the lower level of Sparks Center to change clothes.
