Biography

Professor Lucas Cordova is a software engineer and computing researcher and educator. He completed his Ph.D. in Software Engineering at North Dakota State University, M.S. in Software Development and Management at Rochester Institute of Technology, and B.S. in Computer Science at University of New Mexico. He taught previously at Western Oregon University and Oregon Institute of Technology. Prior to academia, Professor Cordova worked in industry as a software engineer where he developed distributed, web, mobile, database, cloud, and supercomputing applications.

Professor Cordova’s research interests include all facets of software engineering, including development methodologies, requirements gathering, design, construction, testing, deployment, and maintenance. He also focuses on computing pedagogy, especially on researching improved methods for teaching and learning computing subjects. He is currently engaged in collaborative research with multiple universities on a multi-year project that is focused on developing pedagogical tools for software testing education.

Professor Cordova considers himself a life-long learner and enjoys tinkering with new programming languages and features, living on the edge by installing pre-release versions of all software that he uses, disassembling things he probably shouldn’t, and drinking loads of coffee. He also enjoys spending weekends at the coast with his partner and his rambunctious furry children.
