Cylie Lagao BA’24

On May 19, Cylie Lagao BA’24 will depart from Willamette with every college graduate’s dream: an exciting and meaningful career opportunity that will put the skills and knowledge she learned to the test. Looking back, Cylie can see how the experiences she had in and out of the classroom at Willamette made this accomplishment possible.

“At Willamette, I've experienced a mix of academic challenges, creative exploration, and meaningful engagement, which have set the stage for an exciting future ahead,” Cylie says. “I can attest to the profound transformation I've undergone, both personally and professionally.”

Cylie developed her professional and personal network through Fraternity & Sorority Life. The leadership opportunities she had in her sorority helped her develop the skills she needed to become a well-rounded student and professional.

“Navigating through various challenges, both academically and socially, instilled in me a sense of resilience and adaptability that I carry forward into all aspects of my life,” Cylie says. “The leadership roles held within the sorority further enhanced my organizational and management skills, preparing me for the dynamic demands of the business and professional world.”

A business major, Cylie’s commitment to leadership was reflected in her coursework. An introductory course with JELD-WEN Professor of Free Enterprise Debra Ringold changed her self-conception as a leader and a manager, which will benefit her future career endeavors.

Cylie says these experiences have had a deep impact on her. “My time at Willamette has provided me with a solid foundation of knowledge, skills, and experiences that continue to guide and inspire me as I embark on my professional journey.”

After graduation, the busy and accomplished business major will take on an assistant editor role at the Portland-based post-production studio Lucky Day. She’ll be able to bring her business acumen to her work with such high-profile clients as Google, Adidas, and Nike.

“My time at Willamette has provided me with a solid foundation of knowledge, skills, and experiences that continue to guide and inspire me as I embark on my professional journey.”

“I am eager to embark on the next phase of my professional journey by immersing myself in the world of video editing,” Cylie says. “In this role, I will have the opportunity to contribute to a diverse range of projects, honing my skills and gaining invaluable experience in the field. Armed with my academic background, I am equipped to not only comprehend customer behavior but also adeptly address their evolving needs and foster client relationships along the way in a professional manner.”

“‘Not unto ourselves alone are we born’ inspires me to approach life with empathy, compassion, and a commitment to service,” Cylie says. “I know that by lifting others up, we can create a brighter and more interconnected world.”
