More food choices are on the menu for summer

New summer dining options offer the campus community more choice and convenience than ever before.

While the Cat Cavern is usually the main dining facility during summer months, this year it will be closed until Aug. 19. In its place, Goudy Commons will be open for extended hours with a wider array of menu options, including its extensive salad bar.

“We've felt for some time that our entire community — Willamette, TIUA, summer conference attendees and Salemites — would be better served by having summer dining options center around Goudy Commons,” says Chris Linn, director of dining services. “We can bring in more diversity in our selections, greater seasonality, and give visitors and prospective Bearcats the best snapshot possible of what dining services at Willamette University looks like during the academic year.”

In addition, Bon Appetit, which provides Willamette’s food services, will take over The Bistro (now temporarily known as Chez Bearcat) for the summer to provide drinks and snacks from 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Kaneko Cafe is also open for breakfast and lunch, Monday through Friday, for the entire month of June.

As in previous summers, Bon Appetit plans to bring in special seasonal foods such as berries and other Willamette Valley local produce. Says Linn, “The community can count on seeing items like local blueberry milkshakes and loganberry hand-pies!”
