It's time to celebrate with family and friends, reflect, and recenter before ringing in the new year.
Illustrated hills of pale greens and blues and starry white snowflakes part to reveal “HAPPY HOLIDAYS” spelled in bright letters of green, orange and pink on a pale blue background.
Festive music plays as boughs of mistletoe with both red and white berries appear behind the lettering and dance from side to side.
An illustrated couple—a man with brown skin and a warm purple jacket alongside a woman with long dark hair, a red hat with a pompom and a flowing winter scarf—walks in from the lefthand side. They pass by tall, colorful trees of yellow, purple and blue, which have their boughs covered in white snow.
The trees and the couple fade away as an illustration of Portland’s famous White Stag sign done in pale green slides in. The icon features an outline of the state’s shape along with the words “Portland, Oregon” and a drawing of a leaping stag with tall horns.
Blue snowflakes and a snow-covered hill slide up the screen from the bottom, revealing a white, pink and purple illustration of the Arlene and Harold Schnitzer Center for Art and Design on PNCA’s campus. The drawing also shows an orange and black street sign that reads “NW HOYT.”
The blue snowflakes swirl and the festive music continues as other landmarks pop up on the screen to join the Schnitzer Center: a snow-topped street sign outlined in royal blue that reads “MARKET ST,” a pink park bench and a multi-colored drawing of the Fremont Bridge and its rainbow-shaped arch.
From the right, a large pink and yellow illustration of a person’s leg wearing shorts, a tall white sock and tennis shoes appears. A yellow bicycle rides in from the left, and as it crosses the screen, the illustrations in the background begin to disappear.
As the screen empties to just a pale blue background, a small illustration of a person slides up from the bottom. They are facing away from the viewer and wearing a black hat, white jacket, black pants, and hot pink backpack; they are standing on a large white and green tree stump.
As blue snowflakes continue to swirl, a black, purple and green illustration of mountains and evergreen trees appears to the left of the screen as if the person with the pink backpack were looking out over them. More green and white evergreens fill in the middle and right, when a blue songbird flies in from the right side.
As the bird passes over the screen, the background of mountains and trees is replaced by an illustration of Willamette’s campus, with Mill Stream flowing down in light blue on the left and rolling pink meadows with white, blue and green bushes and trees on the right.
As the festive music continues, the perspective zooms in and we appear to be traveling over the pink hill to the right. The backpacker fades away as we crest the hill and see a line drawing of the Oregon State Capitol building with its tall dome and statue of the Oregon Pioneer on top. A snow-topped street sign in royal blue and pink that reads “WINTER ST” appears on the right on the screen.
As the Capitol and street sign fade away, they are replaced by an orange and black drawing of Willamette’s Waller Hall. In the background, more tall, colorful trees of yellow, purple and blue appear with snow-covered boughs and yellow starbursts. Rolling, snowy hills float up from the bottom of the screen.
Waller Hall disappears but the snowy hills and colorful trees remain as a large bough of mistletoe with red berries appears and dances from side to side to the rhythm of the festive music.
Slowly, the trees and the mistletoe fade away, leaving the pale blue background, several pale green and snowy hills, and a few swirling blue snowflakes. A bright red college pennant with the Willamette University compass logo appears on the left of the screen. At the top, black writing reads: “From all of us at Willamette University, we wish you a holiday season full of peace, love, and joy, and a new year filled with health and happiness!”
The black lettering lingers on the screen before being replaced by “HAPPY HOLIDAYS” spelled in bright letters of green, orange and pink. The red Willamette pennant remains on the bottom left of the screen, and after a moment, “HAPPY HOLIDAYS” is replaced by black lettering that reads: “Illustration by Harvey Grace, PNCA ’19; Video editing by Daniela Repas, PNCA ’08, MFA ’20”
