The program offers scholarships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are committed to careers in biomedical, behavioral, and social science health-related research. The scholarships include up to $20,000 annually in support for tuition, educational expenses, a stipend for living expenses; paid research training at the NIH during the summer; and paid training and employment at the NIH after graduation.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, full-time students at accredited institutions, from a disadvantaged background (be certified by financial aid office as having "exceptional financial need"), and have GPA of at least 3.5 or within top five percent of the class.

Online applications open annually in January.
