Become part of the Willamette Family in this program centered around building community for students of color and first-generation college students, student resources on campus and in the community, with an emphasis on multicultural issues.

Join us as we build community with one another while living out Willamette University’s motto, “Not unto ourselves alone are we born.”

Steppin’ Out

Explore Oregon with the Steppin’ Out program and make new friends.

linQ

We invite incoming LGBTQ+ students and allies to join our affinity-based program where you can build early connections and get a head start on college success.

These Jump Start opportunities will enable you to meet other new students, explore the scenic beauty of the Pacific Northwest, and lend a helping hand in your new community in a smaller, more intimate setting before the Opening Days orientation involving all new students.

Quick Facts

  • Who: All incoming first-year students and transferring students
  • What: 4 days of student-led activities planned around an identity and/or affinity theme designed to get you connected at WU before classes begin
  • When: August 18–21, 2023
  • Where: All programs start and end on campus
    • Steppin' Out activities and accommodations are off-campus.
    • linQ+, Ohana and S3 will live on campus and activities will be in/around the Salem and Portland metro area
  • Why: Begin before the beginning!
    • Build a COMMUNITY to rely on when you’re a Bearcat
    • Establish the CONFIDENCE in yourself to accomplish hard things
    • Develop more TOOLS to support your well-being at Willamette
    • Examine your new CULTURE of Willamette Bearcats
  • How: Registration opens June 1, with financial assistance requests available through June 19. Registration closes June 26 and acceptance notifications are delivered by June 29.
  • Cost: Varies by program. Financial assistance may be available and participants may pay in installments
