Leonide Martin with the Mayan Red Queen, Book Bin

Leonide Martin author of the Mists of Palenque series, draws from academic skills and Maya initiate training to write authentic historical fiction. She conducted extensive research and on-site archeological studies, residing in Yucatan while studying with Maya elders. Leonide lives with her husband and two white cats in Willamette Valley wine country, Oregon.

OSCF Speaker Series Presents: Bev Clarno "From Pigs to Politics" , Oregon State Capitol

Bev Clarno will be talking about her book, “From Pigs to Politics” in Hearing Room C at noon.

“Bev Clarno’s political skills took root in childhood on a farm in Eastern Oregon where she was expected to haul as much pig slop as her brother. No whining. No complaining. She grew up to become Oregon’s Speaker of the House where she was nobody’s snowflake. Two decades later, she’s still nobody’s snowflake. Her rendition of the record is a treasure,” Senator Betsy Johnson.​

Salem Art Walk, Reed Opera House

The Salem Art Walk on Final Fridays boasts a variety of art displayed around the downtown core.  Pop-up galleries, theme shows, open studios and various spaces will have a diverse selection of work from a wide variety of artists.  Opportunities abound for artists to show their work, musicians and buskers are invited to entertain.  Stop by Prisms for a map of venues each month and join the artists at the 21 after party held at rotating venues.

Jose Angel Aragruz With Until We Are Level Again, Book Bin Salem

José Angel Araguz is a CantoMundo fellow and the author of seven chapbooks as well as the collections Everything We Think We Hear, Small Fires, and Until We Are Level Again. His poems, prose, and reviews have appeared in Crab Creek Review, Prairie Schooner, The Windward Review, and The Bind. He serves as an editor for the journal Right Hand Pointing and is on the editing staff of Airlie Press. He runs the poetry blog The Friday Influence and teaches English and creative writing at Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon.

The 2018 International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella West Semifinal Live, Elsinore Theatre

The International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA), brought to you by Varsity Vocals, is the largest international a cappella tournament exclusive to universities around the world. Varsity Vocals gives young singers the opportunity to interact, compete, learn from each other, get feedback from the pros, and perform in fantastic venues around the globe. The collegiate competition includes more than 400 groups across the world with over 50 events. This event will include 10 colleges a cappella groups who have already placed first or second in events across the West Region. The group placing first in this event will be named ICCA West Champion and move on to the Finals held in New York City’s Beacon Theatre on Saturday, April 21st, 2018. This is a family-friendly event, all ages welcome. Doors open at 6:00 pm.
