2019 Opening Days Leader Profiles

Opening Days leaders are a diverse group representing all parts of the Willamette community in their interests and activities. They are actors and athletes, transfer and international students, Greek and independent, and represent all different ages and years of students.

The one thing these leaders all share is their desire to meet and assist new students. The leaders are carefully selected during a competitive application process in February of each academic year. After their selection, they complete a Spring Training and then return to school in August for intensive training and preparation before Opening Days begins.

Besides leading the new students during Opening Days, these leaders are also responsible for planning all the events and programs that occur during Opening Days. Every leader is a member of one of the OD committees, each responsible for planning different events.

Favorite thing about WU

My favorite thing about WU are the people. The students are always trying to create an inclusive space for everyone and they are very passionate about what they believe in which is so admirable. The faculty are also so supportive of our education which is such a helpful part in this time.

Animal that best describes your personality

Grumpy Cat. Very specific, but it's because my face always looks upset, but I usually am not. Also, I love taking naps and I assume she does too.

Favorite thing about WU

My favorite thing about WU is the ability to build relationships with so many different types of people and to consistently strength these relationships through different commitments, whether that be in class, leadership positions, or clubs. Similarly, I enjoy getting to know professors personally and talking to them about the work they do, which is not an opportunity most college students get to experience.

Animal that best describes your personality

An animal that describes my personality is a cat because I'm kind, loving and affectionate, but I don't give my time to just anybody, and my affection and trust must be earned before giving way to these nicer qualities.
