The Memo, by Václev Havel

October 29 – November 15, 2020

Translation by Paul Wilson
Directed by Susan Coromel

Office life turns upside-down when it is forced to adopt a new language called Ptydepe, a “Newspeak” that is one part efficiency, one part goobledygook! This absurdist farce, set in a socially-distanced landscape, looks directly at how we control words – and how they control us. Staged with a COVID-safe environment, including PPE – "Facemask as fashion!"

Shows will be broadcast live online using YouTube secured system.

May 2, 2021 at 2:00 pm

Department of Music, Dramatic Vocal Arts
Directed by Katherine Skovira

Fusing parodies of Bach and Beethoven with jazz and pop music forms, The Cradle Will Rock is a savage powerhouse musical that confronts capitalism, racism, corruption, and bigotry. With its composer at the piano, the 1937 premiere was itself an act of defiance against censorship, an answer to Bertolt Brecht’s blazing suggestion: “Why don’t you write a piece about all kinds of prostitution — the press, the church, the courts, the arts, the whole system?”

PERFORMANCES

Thurs - Sat, 7:30 pm. Sunday matinees at 2 pm.
Shows will be broadcast live online using Deck 10 Media secured system.

Presented under license from European American Music Corporation on behalf of Christopher Davis and the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music, Inc.
