Willamette MBA's Career Management events include Personalized Career Fairs, Employer Spotlights, Mock Interviews, and Company Treks. These personalized career-focused events are designed to provide students with small group or one-on-one interactions with employers and corporate partners. Employers and recruiters tell us that they prefer small group interactions with an opportunity to get to know students on an informal basis. Students also prefer the intimate atmosphere of our career events with opportunities to get to know employers over candid conversations. Over time, many of these initial relationships result in internships and job offers.
Personalized Career Fairs
Unlike large, traditional career fairs, our Personalized Career Fairs allow small group and individual interactions. To engage both employers and students, these events are highly choreographed and involve two simultaneous activities.
The first activity is small group information sessions, where each employer shares with 5-10 students, for 10 minutes before moving to the next table for another 10-minute discussion with another small group of students (similar to "speed dating"). What is amazing is that students become interested in companies they would have never visited at a traditional career fair and employers are able to engage with a small group and identify potential talent.
The second simultaneous activity is short mock interviews or one-on-one informational with students and employers.
These Personalized Career Fairs have been highly rated by both students and employers. They are typically held on Fridays when students do not have class and are typically between 3-4 hours, but we are flexible if your schedule only allows you to join for a limited duration.
Employer Spotlights (In Person or Virtual every Wednesday)
Spend a lunch hour with students, sharing about your organization, hiring opportunities for MBA candidates, as well as your own personal career path. Lunch provided by Career Management. AV equipment available. Employer Spotlights typically take place on Wednesdays during the Career Management Hour (12:00pm-1:00pm) on the Salem campus, but we are happy to accommodate you on a different day/time/location if you prefer. We are happy to host you for a Virtual Employer Spotlight if you are not able to attend in person.
Mock Interviews (in the fall)
Participate as a Mock Interviewer! Students customize a resume and cover letter for a posted mock job, then have a face-to-face mock interview with a professional. As a Mock Interviewer, you will be given a sample interview format and questions that you are welcome (but not required) to use. You will then be asked to complete a brief evaluation and provide verbal feedback to the student interviewee, for future improvement. Students come away from Mock Interviews better prepared for their real interviews to come. As an employer, Mock Interviews give you an opportunity to see the quality of Willamette MBA candidates for your own potential hiring needs.
Company Treks (fall and spring)
Let students experience your organization first hand. Site visits and company treks are an excellent way to introduce MBA students to your culture, your people and your facilities. Most treks include 10-25 students and are 1-3 hours in length and may include an overview of the company, small group information sessions with alumni, recruiters or your staff, and a tour of the facility/office space.

Other than Career Close-Up, there is no charge or fees associated with Willamette MBA career events. You are our guest!

NOTE: No need to bring heavy booth materials for Personalized Career Fairs since you will be moving around to different tables throughout the day
