Fifth Annual Juried Student Art Show on display now, in the Art building's Student Art Gallery.

The Studio Art Department’s Fifth Annual Student Juried Art Show is open now in the Art Building, and will close on Friday, April 22. We had over 100 submissions from 38 artists, and from those submissions, 22 pieces were selected to be in the show.

From the 22 pieces in the show, juror Shoki Tanabe selected one Best in Show, and four Honorable Mentions. Shoki Tanabe said that his decision-making process was based on aesthetic, aesthetic execution and overall concept of each piece.

The winner of Best in Show was Exene Vandenberg, with "Buy Simplify (After Opie)", a video remake of a piece originally by Professor Alexandra Opie, with a score by music Professor Mike Nord. This project was made in collaboration with Artwork/Teamwork this semester. Tanabe praised the editing, acting, humor and choice of props.

The Honorable Mentions were Birdie Greenwell, for the linocut piece "Somewhere Between"; Blaze Newman for the sculptural piece "HEAVY"; Sarah Menke for the drawing "The Cartographer"; and Ally Teper for the digital video "Feels Like Home".
