New Omicron specific COVID boosters arrive in Oregon

Contact: Don Thomson

Oregon receives shipments of the new “bivalent” boosters targeting BA.4 and BA.5.

As you have likely heard, the FDA and CDC recently approved updated, or “bivalent boosters” to target the most recent Omicron subvariants, BA.4 and BA.5, that are more contagious and more resistant than earlier strains of Omicron. The Oregon Health Authority recently received shipment of these bivalent boosters and has made them available at a number of on-going vaccination sites across the state. Community members can also find a booster close to you by visiting Get Vaccinated Oregon. You can filter your search by location and vaccine maker.  Because Oregon is prioritizing major distribution hubs across the state, Bishop Wellness Center will not be receiving any shipment of the updated boosters.

More information about the CDC vaccine recommendations, including who is eligible for the updated boosters and when can be found here.
