WU and the 'Ness of Brodgar' Summer Scotland program

Contact: Chris Andresen

Going strong since 2010, the Ness gives students unparalleled opportunities to explore archaeology.

Since 2010, the university has been the only North American school with permission to send students to the Ness of Brodgar, a UNESCO world heritage site and the base of the Willamette Archaeology Field School.

The WU program was back on site for summer 2022, and Professor Scott Pike and the Office of International Education are looking forward to another active year on-site for summer 2023.

Non-Willamette students who want to study at the site must enroll via the university. By the end of summer 2023, we will have sent just under 200 students to the site after 13 years of being part of the program.

The Summer Scotland program is one of several summer programs overseen by the OIE. This field school offers many wonderful opportunities for students of all majors who are also interested in archaeology, as well as those majoring in it and looking to complete capstone research.

See events for an information session on Nov. 10 at 11:30 a.m. in Collins 208.
