Oregon State Police Salem campus familiarization tour today

Contact: Campus Safety

The purpose of the tour is to help familiarize the OSP contingent with our campus geography.

We want members of the Salem campus community to be aware that as part of Willamette University’s emergency management strategy, approximately 15 members of the Oregon State Police (OSP) Capitol Contingent will tour the Salem campus today, Monday, September 11, from 2 to 3 p.m. In the event of a critical incident occurring on the Salem campus, the OSP Capitol Police would be the most likely public safety organization to arrive first on scene due to their close proximity. The purpose of the tour is to help familiarize the OSP contingent with our campus geography, layout, and common themed areas. This is a walking tour only of the grounds and an external familiarization to the buildings on campus and the functions they serve. No buildings will be entered.

We understand that seeing a large uniformed police presence on campus could be alarming, but we want to assure the community that there is no emergency situation occurring during this time. This tour is meant to be a preventative measure to enhance our response to a critical incident. We take the safety of our community seriously, with this tour being part of our continuing commitment to the safety and protection of the Willamette community.

Sincerely,

Andrew Fresh
