Biography
Ilan is a first-generation college graduate who received his Bachelor of Arts in History from Willamette University. He completed a Master of Arts in History from the University of Texas at Austin in 2021. He is originally from Southern California.
Ilan spent his time in school researching the history of Central America. As the son of a Guatemalan refugee, he conducted oral history field work in Huehuetenango, Guatemala and nurtured a strong commitment to social justice. At the same time, he mentored dozens of students from underrepresented groups in the history department at the University of Texas and helped them find their respective passions.
These experiences inspired Ilan to return to Willamette to work with underrepresented students. He cares deeply about mentorship and helping students realize their potential. Ilan lives in Portland, OR with his fiance Ivy. He enjoys cooking, reading, and hiking in the Pacific Northwest.
